Should boxing be ban

Should boxing be banned banning
Now I know what you’re thinking what a stupid title for a blog post on a boxing website, but since the tragic events of last week this debate has come up again.

I have read a number of articles on websites and   on social media from leading neurologist saying that boxing is just a savage sport that courses irreversible brain damage, and that the number of brain injuries and deaths in boxing is on the increase, but I can’t find any evidence to there claims. According to my research there is a 1 in 2,200 chance of dying in the ring. Were as in sports like Grand Prix racing it’s more like 1 in 100 but I don’t see anyone saying let’s ban Grand Prix’s. Since the introduction of Queensbury rules in 1884 roughly 500 boxers have die in the ring, or from injuries from a fight.  Now I agree that’s 499 too many but when you think of the amount of boxing matches there are per  year that number is relatively low.

Ok this year has been a bad one for boxing with the Nick Blackwell injury in March and now the death of Mike Towell, we all know that boxing is a dangerous sport but the medical procedures have improved over the years I talked about this in a previous post call “What happens when things go wrong”.

Now I am not been disrespectful when I say this but I have read a number of reports claiming that Mike Towell was suffering from headache and migraines just days before the fight but he didn’t want to cancel the fight.  People have also been saying why didn’t the doctor stop him from fighting when he had his pre fight medical he was advised not to fight by his gym mates and I am sure if he had declared the fact to a doctor that he didn’t feel well and he was suffering from headaches he would have been stopped from fighting. I’m not saying it’s his fault he die because it was no one’s fault I’m saying if he’d had been honest to himself and the people around him  his death may have been avoided.

So should boxing be ban short answer no!
