Fight Night Review 5th November 2017

fight night, review

In the early hours of Sunday morning New York played host to a packed night of action. Here’s my fight night review of all the action.

Deontay Wilder V Bermane Stiverne

Deontay Wilder retained his title in sensational fashion with a 1st round knockout,

During the introductions it looked more like a Greek god V a Greek earn then a boxing match.

Deontay Wilder came out looking to let his hands go and make a statement, it looked like he could just land at will. Then he landed his big right and Stiverne hit the canvas he beat the count but it only looks like a matter of time. Straight away Wilder landed the right hand again and again Stiverne hits the canvas but he beat the count again but how much more can he take. As soon as Stiverne got back up Wilder put him down again, and the referee stopped the fight

Sergey Lipinets V Akihiro Kondo

Sergey Lipinets became the world champion with a unanimous decision.

The 1st round was just a range finder for both men it was a close round with not much to split them, I think Lipinets just edged it with his better movement and shot selection. In the 2nd round Lipinets was working well off the jab. Kondo did start to throw some nice combinations it was another close round. In the 3rd Lipinets was looking to stay on the front foot and throw combinations. Kondo was boxing well defensively on the back foot and was catching Lipinets on the counter. In the 4th Lipinets continued to box well off the jab and he’s starting to pick Kondo off. Kondo is starting to look a bit one dimensional. In the 5th Lipinets still looked very relaxed and it looked like he was starting to load up more. Then Kondo rocked Lipinets and got him pinned on the ropes.

Going into the second half of the fight I had Lipinets 4 up but Kondo is still in this fight, and now he knows he can hurt Lipinets. In the 6th Lipinets was going to the body more. Then midd way through the round Lipinets was cut on the head from a head clash. Although Kondo is still in this fight Kondo needs to up the pace. In the 7th round Kondo was moving better and was starting to land some quality shots. I wonder if the cut to Lipinets is bothering him. Toward the end of the round Kondo came on strong. In the 8th Kondo started to land some nice shots and backing Lipinets up. The cut does seem to be affecting Lipinets vision, but he’s still firing back. Midd way through the round Kondo rocked Lipinets again. Lipinets punches have lost some of their snap. In the 9th Kondo was landing some nice shots. Lipinets needs to get back behind his jab as it was working well at the start of the fight. I think that if Kondo had a bit more of a punch he would be able to get Lipinets out of there. In the 10th Lipinets went back to his jab but Kondo was staying on the front foot. Although Lipinets is not throwing as much as he was the better work was coming from Lipinets. In the 11th Lipinets was working well off the jab and he’s starting to land more power shots. However he was getting caught more often

Going into the final round I had Lipinets 2 up but it’s been a close fight. In the 12th Kondo went looking for the knockout, but the better quality shots were coming from Lipinets. In the last few seconds Kondo gave it everything he’s got but it’s not going to be enough

Shawn Porter V Adrian Granados

Shawn Porter won a wide unanimous decision to take one step closer to becoming a world champion once again

In the 1st round Porter came out working well off the jab and was landing some nice body shots, but Granados was happy to let his hands go. In the 2nd Porter was doing well landing 2 or 3 hooks at a time. This fight has got off to a very fast start. When Granados lands they are having an effect on Porter. In the 3rd Porter landed some nice combinations to the body, but he’s not having it all his own way, Granados was moving well and making Porter miss. The 4th was a bit scrappy Porter can win this fight if he uses his boxing skills. Toward the end of the round Porter rocked Granados but he took the shots well. In the 5th it looked like Porter had gone back to his boxing working off the jab then landing the big shots. Granados is taking Porter’s punches well but there’s no way he can do this all night.

Going into the second half of the fight Porter has won every round on my card. At the start of the 6th Granados landed a big right which seemed to wake Porter up. Porter was landing some good shots but he’s getting dragged into Granados type of fight. In the 7th Porter seemed to be jumping into his punches. When he uses his boxing skill you can see he’s the much better boxer. In the 8th round Porter looked like he was loading up more, he needs to box his way in then throw the big shot. In the 9th Porter landed some nice head shots, but still he’s just looking for that one big shot. Granados is starting to look tired can Porter get him out of there. In the 10th Porter continued to land big shots to the head and body. However Granados had some success of his own. The 11th was much the same as the rest of the fight Porter throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Granados but he won’t go down.

Going into the final round Porter had won every round. In the 12th Granados went looking for the knockout but Porter’s movement meant that he couldn’t land clean, and Porter kept coming back with shots of his own.
