Fight Night Review 2nd April 2016

fight night, review
Here is the review from a pack night of boxing in Liverpool.

Paul Smith was due to make his comeback on this bill but he forced to withdraw due to illness.

Scott Cardle Vs Sean Dodd

This British title fight ended in controversial fashion with 2 of the 3 judges  scoring it a draw.

At the start of the fight Sean Dodd came out swinging , but he was out classed by Cardle’s foot movement which was making Dodd miss. By the start of the second half of the fight I had Cardle one up but you could see the momentum moving to Dodd. At the end of the 8th Cardle was cut over his right eye. At the start of the championship rounds Cardle looked like he was struggling with the pace of the fight and was reaching with his punches.  Going into the 12th  I had Dodd up by 2 by the end of the fight I had Dodd winning by 3 rounds and the arena was rocking.

With that result surely  there has to be a 3rd fights

Rocky Fielding Vs Christopher Rebrasse

Rocky Fielding made a successful comeback but he made hard work of it, winning a split decision

From the first bell Fielding came out looking confident Regularly finding jabs and body shots. However at the end of the second round disaster struck when Fielding hit the canvas. Rebrasse took control of the 3rd rocking Fielding, he was beating Fielding to the punch. Fielding had a better round in the 4th but Rebrasse was still getting through the defends of Fielding. By the half way point Fielding was just edging it on work rate, but he still looked vulnerable when Rebrasse landed. Going into the 10th it was tight with quality punches coming from Rebrasse but the higher work rate coming from Fielding. In the 11th Fielding was looking strong and he was walking through Rebrasse’s punches . In the 12th both men where going for it and at times Fielding was looking wobbly but at the end of the fight I had Fielding up by one.

That win puts Fielding into the world title mix but I think he needs to work on his defences before he can step up.

Callum Smith Vs Hadillah Mohoumadi

Callum Smith made easy work of Hadillah Mohoumadi stopping him inside a round

As smith walk to the ring  Liverpool was rocking it looked like the hole city was behind him. This fight was short but from the opening bell  Mohoumadi came out looking like he meant business and Smith have to cover up. After weathering the storm Smith started to tee off and many people at ringside where worried that he was going to punch himself out ,because remember  Mohoumadi had never been stopped but with 1 minute and 18 seconds to go in the first the referee stopped it because Smith was taking Mohoumadi apart.

That win makes Smith the mandatory challenger for the WBC title and the first member of the Smith family to win a European title.
