In the early hours of Sunday morning New York gave us a packed night of action. Here’s my fight night review of all the action.
Daniel Jacobs V Luis Arias
Daniel Jacobs puts on a boxing master class to out class Luis Arias to win by a wide unanimous decision.
The 1st round was a bit of a feeling out round, but Jacobs seems happy to let his hands go. Mid way through the round Jacobs rocked Arias. In the 2nd Jacobs was working well off the jab he seemed to be the quicker of the two which was making Arias miss. Toward the end of the round Jacobs landed a nice combination to the body. The 3rd started slower Arias needs to find a way into this fight otherwise it’s going to be a long night, as Jacobs is just able to pick him off, Jacobs just looks the boss in there at the moment. In the 4th although Arias is throwing the jab but there missing and Jacobs is landing on the counter. In the 5th Arias was throwing punches but he couldn’t back Jacobs up, the better work was still coming from Jacobs
Going into the second half of the fight Jacobs has won every round on my card. In the 6th Jacobs was able to stay on the front foot, and now he’s starting to land bigger shots. However Arias had some success it was probably his best round of the fight, but for me it still wasn’t enough for him to win the round. In the 7th Jacobs was still working well off the jab and he was doing a good job of cutting off the ring. It looks to me like Arias needs to step it up and force the pace because at the moment he’s only fighting when he has to. In the 8th Jacobs was still on the front foot he was just out thinking and out fighting Arias. In the 9th Jacobs still continued to box well Arias hasn’t put Jacobs under any pressure, Jacobs is just able to pick his shots and fight at his own pace. In the 10th Jacobs was able to cut off the ring, throughout the whole fight Arias just hasn’t been able to get his boxing going or find his range. In the 11th it looked like Jacobs was going for the finish as he started to load up more with his shots. At the end of the round Arias touched down and the referee gave him the count.
Going into the final round Jacobs has won every round and he’s really out classed Arias. The 12th was the same as the rest of the fight with Jacobs boxing beautifully.
Jarrell Miller V Mariusz Wach
Jarrell Miller looked impressive as he scored an 9th round stoppage.
In the 1st round both men seemed happy to let their hands go. I think Miller edged it with the better quality shots. The 2nd round started a bit scrappy with a lot of holding. Then the punches started to flow with both men having success. It looks like Miller wants to keep the fight at distance and Wach wants to get on the inside. In the 3rd Miller was working well off the jab and backing Wach up, and then looking to land the big shot. It’s only the 3rd but Wach already looks out of steam. Miller started the 4th landing nice jabs to the head and body, he’s just looking for the perfect time to throw the big shots. As the round goes on less and less is coming back from Wach, it looks like he’s been out classed. In the 5th Miller continued to back Wach up and land combinations, there seems to be nothing Wach can do to slow Miller down.
Going into the second half of the fight Miller had won every round on my card. In the 6th Miller continued just to box well and land big shots, you have to wonder how much more Wach can take. In the 7th Wach did try and work off his jab,but it didn’t seem to make a dent in Miller. Then Miller landed a nice shot of his own that rocked Wach and he looked ready to go. Miller continued to tee off but somehow Wach makes it through the round. In the 8th Wach did try to fire back but it was having no effect on Miller, but it was probably his best round of the fight. In the 9th Miller was just able to pick Wach off and his corner has seen enough and the towel came in.
