Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time. This week we are back at The O2 for a packed night of action, all the action is live on Sky Sports Action from 7pm
Dillian Whyte V Lucas Browne
This is a must win fight for both men if they want to take one step closer to a world title shot. Dillian Whyte comes into this fight as the defending champion with a record of 22-1 with 16 knockouts. He’s won all of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he won the then vacant WBC Sliver title with a unanimous decision over Robert Helenius.
Lucas Browne comes into this fight with a perfect record of 25-0 with 22 knockouts. From his last 6 fights he’s knocked out 5 of his opponents. He’s no stranger to a hostel British crowd as he has fought here twice before in 2014. In his last fight he knocked out Matthew Greer in the 2nd round.
Many people believe that this is going to be a hard fight there’s no question that Whyte is the more experienced of the two and yes Browne has a undefeated record but if you look at his record he hasn’t really fought anyone of note. So I think that if Whyte can get his jab working then start following it up with the right hand then I can see him getting the knockout in the middle to late rounds. Whoever wins they should be next inline for a shot at the WBC title.
Frank Buglioni V Callum Johnson
This fight will be Frank Buglioni’s 3rd defence of his British title and he comes into this fight with a record of 21-2-1 with 15 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights, but only 2 of them by knockout. In his last fight he put in an impressive display to win a unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Craig Richards.
Callum Johnson comes into this fight with a perfect record of 16-0 with 11 knockouts. He has knocked out 5 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he won the then vacant commonwealth title with a knockout victory in the 9th round over Willbefore Shihepo.
This should be a close fight there’s no question that Buglioni is the far more experienced of the two he may even be the better technical boxer. However he does have a tendency to walk in, in straight lines with his hands down which can make him easy to hit and Johnson does carry power. With that in mind I can see Buglioni trying to keep the fight at range and work off the jab and win it on points or by late stoppage.
Lewis Ritson V Scott Cardle
This fight will be Lewis Ritson 2nd defence of his British title and he comes into this fight with a perfect record of 14-0 with 8 knockouts. He’s knocked out 5 out of his last 6 opponents, in his last fight he scored a stunning 1st round knockout over Joe Murray.
Scott Cardle comes into this title fight with a record of 22-1-1 with 7 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights but only 1 of them by knockout with 1 loss and 1 draw. In his last fight he beat Lee Connelly on points but it wasn’t his best performance. If he does come through this fight I would love to see the 3rd fight between him and Sean Dodd providing that he comes through his fight with Tommy Coyle next month.
I think this fight is going to be an old fashioned boxing match with both men having their fair share of success, this fight could come down to who’s got their tactics right. Whoever wins I can see it going all the way to the judges with Cardle winning a split decision.
Anthony Fowler V Kalilou Dembele
Anthony Fowler will be looking to continue his perfect start to his professional career as he comes into this fight with a record of 4-0, he’s knocked out 3 of his 4 opponents. In his last fight he won on points over Laszlo Fazekas. It’s going to be a busy few months for him as he scheduled to fight on the undercard of the Amir Khan bill in April.
Kaliou Dembele also comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 6-0-2 with 2 knockouts. He’s only knocked out 1 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he won a split decision over Romain Peron.
It’s good for the sport to see two prospects putting their undefeated records on the line and we all know what that means somebody 0 has to go. I think you have to make Fowler the favourite for this one, he’s just got to watch that he doesn’t go looking for the knockout and smother his work.
Also on the bill:
Dereck Chisora: At the time of writing this preview his opponent hadn’t been confirmed
