On Saturday night the O2 gave us a packed night of boxing, here’s my fight night review of all the action.
Dillian Whyte V Lucas Browne
Dillian Whyte scores a stunning 6th round knockout surely he should get a shot at Wilder next.
The 1st round was a bit of a feeling out round both just trying to find their range and distance. It was a close round but I think Whyte just edged it. In the 2nd Whyte was working well off the jab then following it up with the right hand. Whyte was also landing some nice body shots. It’s early in the fight but Browne seems to have no answers to Whyte’s attacks. In the 3rd Whyte just picked up where he left off Whyte rocked Browne and Whyte could just tee off. Whyte continued to land big shots how much more can Browne take. The 4th started a little bit slowly Whyte just boxing well working off the jab and just picking Browne off. In the 5th Browne already looks like he’s done 12 rounds. It looked like Whyte has stepped on the gas it looked like he was looking for the stoppage and Browne is just walking in.
Going into the second half of the fight Whyte has won every round it’s only a matter of time before Whyte gets him out of there. In the 6th Whyte was just teeing off on Browne then he landed a big left hook which laid Browne out cold.
Frank Buglioni V Callum Johnson
Callum Johnson shocked Frank Buglioni with a 1st round stoppage to win the British and Commonwealth titles
In the 1st round both came out landing shots and Johnson had Buglioni pinned on the ropes until he hit the canvas he beat the count but his legs are not back under him. Johnson goes looking for the finish and landed a big right and the referee has seen enough and stops the fight.
Lewis Ritson V Scott Cardle
Lewis Ritson retains his British title with a 2nd round stoppage, but were does Scott Cardle go from here?
In the 1st round Cardle came out all guns blazing and it looks like he’s caught Ritson cold. Midway through the round Ritson did get into the fight and started to have success. In the 2nd both men came out trying to land shots, Cardle was throwing more punches but Ritson was showing some good defences. Then midway through the round he started landing shots of his own rocking Cardle and Cardle was counted by the referee because it was only the ropes keeping him up. Now Ritson is going looking for the finish, and Cardle’s corner throws the towel in.
Anthony Fowler V Kalilou Dembele
Anthony Fowler continued his development with a 5th round stoppage.
In the 1st round Fowler was trying to work off the jab and was landing some good shots to the body. However Dembele was making a fight of it he hasn’t just come over for a pay day. In the 2nd Fowler continued to work off the jab but he needs to work on his defences as he is taking a lot of shots. Then midway through the round he landed a nice left hook which sent Dembele to the canvas, he beat the count but now Fowler is looking for the finish landing a number of combinations. Dembele made it to the bell but it only looks like a matter of time before Fowler gets the stoppage. In the 3rd Fowler continued to land shots to the body with less coming back from Dembele. The 4th was much the same as the rest of the fight Fowler is boxing well but it would be good if he could start opening Dembele up and get the stoppage. In the 5th Fowler came out landed 2 big shots and put Dembele on the canvas again he beat the count but he looks very unsteady on his legs, and the referee waved it off.
Also on the bill:
Dereck Chisora: Dereck Chisora looked impressive as he scored a 2nd round knockout, as he looks for a way back to the top. Will it be Joe Joyce on 5th May.
Jamie Cox: Jamie Cox gets his career back on track with a 2nd round knockout. He’ll be back out on the 5th May against John Ryder.
Chris Kongo: wins on points over a game opponent.
I hope you enjoyed the fights comment below and let me know your thoughts, was Frank Buglioni stopped to soon?
As I comment earlier I think the body snatcher should get his world title shot wilder can’t duck him now as for the rest of the review great read well done Chris all best mate.
