Fight Night Preview 4th March

Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time. This week the O2 in London is hosting a packed night of action. All the action is live on Sky Sports box office from 6pm.

David Haye V Tony Bellew

There is only one place to start and that’s with this grudge match between two men who really don’t like one another. I haven’t seen this much interest in a fight since Froch V Groves 2.

David Haye comes into this fight with a record of 28-2 with 26 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 all of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Arnold Gjergjaj with a 2nd round knockout.

Tony Bellew is taking a big risk with this fight by stepping up to heavyweight. He comes into this fight with a record 28-2-1 with 18 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, 5 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat BJ Flores with a 3rd round knockout to retain his world cruiserweight title.

So who’s going to win this one? Many bookies are making Haye the favourite and I can understand why. However in my opinion Haye hasn’t fought anyone in their prime since he fought Wladimir Klitschko and we all remember how that turned out. I think it’s going to be a closer fight than people think, if Bellew can take it into the middle rounds I think he may have a chance. Whoever wins we are not going to need the judges for this one.

Ohara Davies V Derry Mathews

Ohara Davies comes into this fight undefeated with a record of 14-0 with 11 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, 5 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Andrea Scarpa by unanimous decision.

Derry Mathews comes into this fight with a record of 38-11-2 with 20 knockouts. He is currently trying to rebuild after losing 2 back to back fights. He has won 4 out of his last 6, but only 1 by knockout.  In his last fight he was knocked out by Luke Campbell in the 4th round.

Derry Mathews should win this fight as he is the much more experienced fighter. However Ohara Davies is a young and hungry fighter and time may have caught up with Mathews. The question here is if Mathews dose lose were does he go from here. Whoever wins I can see it going all the way.

Sam Eggington V Paulie Malignaggi

This is a fight I’ve been looking forward to since it was announced.

Sam Eggington comes into this fight with a record of 19-3 with 11 knockouts he has won 5 out of his last 6, 4 of them by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out local rival Frankie Gavin in the 8th round in one of last year’s fights of the year.

Paulie Malignaggi comes into this fight with a record of 36-7 with 7 knockouts. His recent form has been a bit hit and miss as he has only won 4 out of his last 6, none of them by knockout, he has also had two back to back losses in those 6. In his last fight he did beat Grabriel Bracero by unanimous decision.

I think this could be another one of those fights where youth will come through over experience, I think it will be a close fight that Eggington will edge on points. Whoever wins it should put them in the world title mix.

Katie Taylor V Monica Gentili

Katie Taylor will be looking to continue her perfect start to her professional career after she beat Viviane Obenauf on point’s last time out.

Monica Gentili comes into this fight with a record of 6-6 with only 1 knockout. She has been on a terrible run of form recently having lost 4 fights straight, she has won her last 2 both on points.

This should be an easy win for Taylor I think this is just a fight to keep her busy as she is due to fight again in April.

Lee Selby V Andoni Gago

Lee Selby comes into this fight with a record of 23-1 with 8 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, 2 of them by knockout.  In his last fight he beat Eric Hunter by unanimous decision.

Andoni Gago comes into this fight with a record of 16-2-2 with 5 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his last 6, 2 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Lorenzo Parra by unanimous decision.

I think Lee Selby will be too much for Andoni Gago due to the fact that Selby has fought at a much higher level. However although I think Selby will win it will probably be on points.

Ted Cheeseman V Jack Sellars

Ted Cheeseman comes into this fight with a undefeated record of 7-0 with 6 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, 5 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Lloyd Ellett with a 2nd round knockout.

Jack Sellars also comes into this fight with a undefeated record of 5-0-1 with 1 knockout. He has won 5 out of his last 6 with one draw.  In his last fight he beat Chris Jenkinson with a 5th round knockout.

In this fight we have two young, hungry and talented fighters at the start of their careers. I think this is just going to be a good fight to watch.

I hope you enjoy the fights comment below on let me know your predictions
