Following my previous two posts on fights the never lived up to the hype and fights that shocked the world, I thought it would be a good Idea to look at some fights we will never get to see so here is my top 10.
10 Ricky Hatton V Junior Witter
This fight looked like a good fight on paper and it was been talked about for years but I think there’s a number of reasons why it never happened. Firstly both men were at very different stages in their careers Hatton was knocking on the door of a world title shot and Witter was still fighting at British title level. Another reason why I think the fight never happen was because although it would have been a huge fight for British boxing at the time I don’t think it would have attracted a global audience. I think if the fight was been talked about today it would probably happen because of social media and the way fights are made these day’s.
So who would of won well both men were known for been big body punchers but I think Hatton would get the knockout early because he had fought at a higher level than Witter.
9 Klitschko V Klitschko
If it had happened who would of won it would be a close fight but I think the younger of the two Vitali would just edge it on points.
8 David Haye V Tyson Fury
This fight was scheduled to happen in 2013 but Haye had to pull out with a shoulder injury, it was then rescheduled for the following year but Haye again pulled out on medical advice. Although Haye has now made a comeback I still can never see the fight happening for two reasons. Firstly I think the public are so disillusioned with the fight not happening the first time around that I think they’ve lost interest with the fight and the fighters. The second reason I can never see this fight happening is because of Tyson Fury’s well publicised out of the ring problems and I can’t see him stepping in a ring again.
Who would have won this one I don’t think Haye could cope with Fury’s power, however if Haye could keep the fight at range and box Fury he would probably win it on points or by a late stoppage. If Fury could get on the inside and use his power and weight advantage he could probably stop Haye.
7 Riddick Bowe V Lennox Lewis
The makings for this fight go back to the 88 Olympics when Lewis beat Bowe to the heavyweight gold medal. After the Olympics that year both men turned professional and they both quickly made a name for themselves in the heavyweight ranks. In 92 Bowe beat Holyfield for the world title, and Bowe was meant to fight Lewis but opted to be stripped of the belt rather than fight Lewis. I don’t blame Bowe for this as it has been reported to have been his management team that advised him to do this. Many people believe the reason the fight never happen was because Lewis was the wrong sort of fighter for Bowe, and the fact that Lewis’s reputation took a battering after he lost to Oliver McCall.
I think if this fight did happen Lewis would have given Bowe a boxing lesson, and ether ease to a points win or knock him out in the middle rounds.
6 Mike Tyson V Anthony Joshua
This would have been great for the heavyweight division because it would have been a fight that the whole world would want to see, it would also get casual boxing fans and the public talking about the sport. A lot of people believe it would be a miss match but I’m not sure two fighters with similar records, styles and knockout percentage sounds like a dream match to me.
Who would win the easy answer to that question is who ever lands clean first there’s no way this fight would go the distance.
5 Joe Calzaghe V Carl Froch
This is a fight that should have happened Calzaghe was the undisputed champion of the world and Froch was the young up and coming fighter. Their styles would have made for a great fight but by the time Froch was in a position to fight for the title Calzaghe refused to give him a shot, instead he moved up to light heavyweight to take on an ageing Bernard Hopkins. Many people believe he did this so that he didn’t have to face Froch because he knew he couldn’t beat him and he was protecting his undefeated record.
When this fight should have taken place Froch would have been faster and a more powerful puncher than Calzaghe. It would have been a good tight fight but I believe Froch would have knock him out as age caught up with Calzaghe.
4 Carl Froch V Mikkel Kessler 3
As we know these two warriors gave us two great fights the first fight in 2010 was a contender for fight of the year and Kessler won a wide if somewhat controversial unanimous decision. In their rematch in 2013 they gave us another hard fought 12 round fight, this time Froch won a unanimous decision. So things were all set up for the rubber match unfortunately Kessler picked up an eye injury in the second fight and was force to retire which was a shame because these two always brought out the best in one another, and they always put on great fights.
To say who would win this one is a hard one I think it would have been another hard fight and I think the judges would of had to split them.
3 Mike Tyson V Riddick Bowe
I think the whole world wanted to see this fight but I can think of reasons why this fight didn’t happen the fight was going to happen but in 92 Tyson was sent to prison on charges of rape and by the time he came out in 95, Bowe was on the slide and well past his best. The fight could have happened in 96 but it was obvious that Bowe was past it when he lost twice to Andrew Golota. The second reason why the fights never happen could have been because Tyson and Bowe were friends they even went to the same school.
To say who would have won this one is a hard one because their styles would have gone together well whoever would of won there would been no need for judges.
2 Ken Norton V Joe Frazier
These two fighters were probably the two biggest fighters of the 70s so why did they never get it on. I think there are two reasons for this, one could be the fact that they were both trained by the same trainer Eddie Futch. The other reason could be the fact that they were really close friends and Frazier is quoted on a number of occasions saying he wouldn’t fight Norton under any circumstances.
This one is a hard one to call because they were both big punchers but I think Frazier would get the stoppage in the late rounds with one of his trademark left hooks.
1 Rocky Marciano V Muhammad Ali
Fans still debate this fight to this day who really was the greatest of all time. In 1969 a computer said that Marciano would win. In my opinion I think the computer was right Ali might have won the early rounds, but even in his prime I don’t think Ali would have the stamina to fight someone like Marciano. It’s just a shame we will never get to find out.
Well that’s my list please comment below and let me know what you think and who would make your list.
