Why we love boxing

fight love boxing
As a boxing fan I am often asked why do I love boxing? Of course I have my own ideas but I would love to hear why you love boxing please comment in the box below.

Critics of boxing will say it’s just a brutal and violent sport that should be ban but I am sure you do not agree with this. Yes we all know that boxing is a violent sport and there is no getting away from that but I don’t think that’s the reason why we love boxing. However I do believe its part of it I think it goes back to our primal instincts to watch two modern day gladiators in a duel.

For me I was always interested in boxing but I didn’t become a fan as such until “Ricky The Hitman Hatton” came on the scene. Even then the main reason I liked it was because it was something that me and my dad could watch together, and when we went to our first live fight when Ricky fought Juan Lazcano in Manchester on 24th May 2008 that was it I was and still am hooked.

I think a lot of people like boxing because everyone loves to root for the underdog and boxing is one of the only sports were you can have a whole arena shouting their hearts out for one person and we will keep shouting whatever the result.

I believe that another reason why we all love boxing is because unlike other sports you don’t have to be a hardcore fan to enjoy it. You don’t even need to know or understand all the rules to enjoy it you just need to see that one fight, just one great fight and you will be hooked for life! Sometimes the fight itself doesn’t even need to be great. Often none boxing fans can just get caught up in the hype of a big fight and that can be enough to get you into the sport. Here are two recent examples to explain my point Floyd Money  Mayweather Vs Manny Pacman Pacquiao on 2nd May 2015 the whole world was excited about this fight it was even been called  “The fight of the century”. Ok the fight didn’t live up to the hype but it was the hype that got none boxing fans interested in it because you had Floyd been he’s typical over the top self, and you had Manny been he’s respectful self. I think this is what caught the interest of none boxing fans because most of them wanted to see Floyd get beat.  Another fight that caught the imagination of the public was Carl  the Cobra Froch vs Saint George Groves 2 on 31st May 2014 this was one of the few fights that I can remember were boxing was on the front page of the newspapers and not the back pages. I think it was the media interest in the fight that got both hardcore fans and casual fans just as excited about it, and on the fight night I would say it was a 50/50 split in the crowd.

I think that Hollywood has help with people’s love of boxing when you look at films like Rocky, Raging Bull, Cinderella man and more recently Southpaw. There all stories about men not only overcoming the opponent in the ring but overcoming life.

So add all this together and I think that’s why we love boxing

I hope you enjoyed this post and please comment below and let me know why you love boxing.
