Reece bellioti: boxing dream comes true

Reece Bellotti British title

This past Saturday we saw proof that dreams really can come true when Reece Bellioti finally won a British title at the age of 33.

On Saturday night, Reece fulfilled his childhood dream when he won the British and Commonwealth titles winning a unanimous decision over Liam Dillon, in a thoroughly entertaining fight that really does show what the British title means.

Okay, those were only highlights, but you can see it was a very entertaining fight and you can see what winning the British title meant to Bellioti. In his post fight interview he said this was a dream come true.

This is probably the best performance of Bellioti’s career, which can be best described as up-and-down.  He is one of boxing’s nice guys, so to see him get what he’s worked his whole life for was a truly heartwarming moment.

The question now is where does he go from here? There’s no question that he is a very good fighter but at the age of 33 is it really realistic that he could make the next step up to European or even world level? I think it’s unlikely and I think he knows that I’m not saying that his career is over by any stretch of the imagination. It’s just that I think he’s found his level at the British title

Now that he has fulfilled his dream I think a good fight for him could be a rematch with Jordan Gill with both the British and Commonwealth titles on the line. As I’m sure you can remember back when boxing returned after COVID in “Matchroom Square Garden” otherwise known as Fight Camp they put on  a great fight.

As you can see, it was a very entertaining fight with Gill getting the decision and I’m sure that Bellioti would love the chance to get revenge, and I’m sure Gill would love to be British champion. Although that is a rematch that I’m sure most boxing fans would like to see. I can see two problems with making it happen number one is that Jordan Gill is scheduled to fight Zelfa Barrett in April in Manchester. Number two if he wins he’s going to be looking to move on to bigger and better things possibly European or world honours, and if he loses that should put him at the back of the queue for a British or Commonwealth title shot.

If that fight doesn’t happen for any reason I can see Reece Bellioti trying to defend the British title three times so that he can win it outright and then calling it a day on his career.

Whichever way you look at it Reece Bellioti winning the British title is probably about as close to a real life, Rocky story as you are likely to get.  As always I love to hear what you guys think. Did you think he won the fight and what would you like to see him do next?
