Life Of A Boxer Over Christmas

Life Of A Boxer Over Christmas

With the festive party season in full swing and we are all eating and drinking too much. I thought it would be a good idea to look at what boxers have to do over Christmas.

We know that in other sports such as football they have to train over Christmas because of their busy schedules this time of year, but is boxing the same. Been a boxer is a 365 day a year job because they always have to watch what their eating and they have to train all year round. For most boxers they will try and fight just before Christmas so they can eat and drink what they want, but for those boxers who are fighting early in the new year Christmas is probably one of the hardest times of the year not only because they can’t eat what they want but they still have to train every day, sometimes even Christmas Day.

For the purpose of this blog I will be using Tony Bellew as an example with his fight been rescheduled with David Haye for 5th May I’m sure his training camp will be back in full swing. He’s already said that he’s training hard now so that he can eat what he wants over Christmas because if he doesn’t he won’t be in shape for the fight. Lucky for him however he’s fighting at heavyweight so if he does eat too much over Christmas I’m sure he can train it off.

The boxers that this time of year is hardest for are boxers like George Groves who is fighting Chris Eubank Jr on the 3rd February because they have to make the Super Middleweight limit. For both of them I’m sure that the festive season is just another working day, as they need to stay on weight, and stay in shape.

Now I’m not saying been a boxer is the hardest job to have at this time of the year. I know that there are a lot harder jobs out there such as doctors or nurses. I’m just trying to show you how hard a boxers life can be.

With this been my last blog before Christmas I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. My next blog will be on the 4th January and it will be the best fights of 2017. So if you know any fights that you think should make my list please comment below.
