Joshua V Parker: Right Fight Right Time?

joshua parker

This past Sunday the world got the news it has been waiting for Anthony Joshua will be taking on Joseph Parker on the 31st March. For the WBA, IBF, IBO and the WBO heavyweight championships of the world at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. However some people have asked is this the right fight at the right time for both men.

There’s no question that on paper this should be a great fight two young undefeated fighters going toe to toe to unify the championship of the world. However both of their last to fights where not their best performances. Joseph took on Hughie Fury and this is what happened.

As you can see it was a close fight with a lot of the rounds difficult to score, however I had Fury 3 rounds up at the final bell but somehow Joseph won a wide split decision. Although it was hardly a vintage performance from him. This could have been for a number of reasons maybe he just under estimated Fury. However it looked to me like their styles just didn’t gel, this shouldn’t be the case with the Joshua fight as they are both front foot come forward fighters.

In Anthony last fight he took on Frenchman Carlos Takam as a late replacement for his mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev after he was forced to pull out with a shoulder injury. This is what happened:

As you can see Anthony scored the knockout in the 10th round. To maintain his 100% knockout record. However before the stoppage Takam gave Anthony all he could handle and then some, but going into the second half of the fight Anthony started to take control and to tee off on Takam. Although many people believe that the fight was stopped to early and maybe they are right but the referee only gets one look and if Anthony didn’t stop him in the 10th he would of stopped him in the next round.

To get this fight Joseph’s team has suggested that Anthony has a glass chin, but that seems a bit harsh. Yes he was stopped as an amateur, but the only man to put him on the floor as a professional was Klitschko and he got up off the floor to stop Klitschko. However these comments do seemed to have got under Anthony skin, which is probably why they’ve done it.

I started this post by asking is this the right fight at the right time. To be honest these two have been on some what of a collision course since they turned professional. So yes it probably is the right fight at the right time. The one problem with unification fights is that both men have everything to win as well as everything to lose.

We will have to wait and see what will happen in this one but their style should gel well and it should be a fight to remember. Please comment below and let me know your thoughts.

  1. Very interesting is it the right time yes definitely I hope Joshua punish before he knocks him out I don’t have anything against him but he’s legend In his own mind cheers Chris.

  2. Thanks for the comment Bill, but for be far I don’t think it’s Parker who thinks he’s a legend it’s his team, but then again that there job to build the fight up.
