Is It The End For The Pacman?

Is It The End For The Pacman, manny pacquio

On Saturday night relatively unknown undefeated Australian fighter Jeff Horn shocked the world by beating the great Manny Pacquio with a unanimous decision, with this loss we have to ask the question have we seen the last of the Pacman?

Many people saw Saturday’s fight as a routine defence for Pacquio but the result was very different Horn started the fight well taking some of the early rounds and Pacquio came on strong toward the end of the fight. So much so that at the end of the 9th the referee threatened to stop the fight, although Pacquio continued to dominate the final rounds he didn’t do enough at the start of the fight to win it. With the judges scoring the fight 117-111, 115-113 on the other two cards. In his post fight interview he said that he respected the decision of the judges and he would be more than happy to return to Australia for the rematch. Is that a good idea because in his last 10 fights he’s only won 6 and he’s lost 4 and he hasn’t scored a knockout since 2009. For large parts of Saturdays fight he looked old and slow with only glimpses of the fighter we all know. At times he looked like he didn’t want to be there. More than once he asked the referee to get the doctor to look at cuts on his head, which is something that he wouldn’t of done 2 or 3 years ago.

After he lost to Floyd Mayweather in 2015 it looked like the end as he announced his retirement from boxing. After having surgery on a shoulder injury he returned to the ring in 2016 and once again he climbed to the top of the mountain and became world champion again. However this latest setback has put his future in serious doubt if this is the end he has left the sport with one hell of a legacy, he’s an 11 times world champion and the only man in the history of the sport to win world titles in 8 different weight devisions.

If this is the end I think he will concentrate on his political and acting careers. One things for sure he’s a future hall of famer and he will always be known as one of the best of all time. I’d like to say thank you for the memories.
