Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time, this week is a bit different as we have to big nights of action. It begins on Sky Sports 1 from 10pm.
Tyron Zeuge V Paul Smith
So we start this week with Paul Smith going back to Germany for his 3rd shot at a world title. He comes into this career defining fight with a record of 38-6 with 22 knockouts. He has a 50-50 record recently winning 3 of his last 6, 2 of them by knockout. He has done well to rebuild his career after suffering 3 back to back losses to get himself back into the world title picture. In his last fight he beat Daniel Regi by knockout.
This fight will be Tyron Zeuge 3rd defence of his world title and he comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 20-0 with 11 knockouts and 1 draw. He has been on an impressive run of form recently winning 5 out of his last 6, 3 of them by knockout with that 1 draw. In his last fight he beat Isaac Ekpo with a 5th round stoppage.
On paper this fight shouldn’t be a contest, you have to make Zeuge the clear favourite as he is 9 years younger than Smith and he’s got knockout power. However I think this fight is going to be a lot closer than many people think, if Smith can use his experience and boxing skills he might just edge it on points. Although if Smith comes out trying to use the same tactics he used in the Ward fight he will get stopped. If Smith does loose I think it’s time he hang up his gloves.
From 2am we head state side for the rematch the world wants to see.
Andre Ward V Sergey Kovalov
Andre Ward comes into this rematch with a undefeated record of 31-0 with 15 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, 2 of them by knockout his last fight was the first fight with Kovalov that he won by unanimous decision
Sergey Kovalov comes into this fight with a record of 30-1-1 with 26 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his last 6, 3 of them by knockout. The only blip on his record was the first fight with Ward.
I have to be honest I can’t pick a winner in this one, but one thing’s for sure if this rematch is as good as the first fight we are in for a real treat. However if I had to pick a winner I would have to say Ward as he is the better boxer out of the two, but if Kovalov can land his big power shots he should be able to knockout Ward. I think this is one of those fights that you just have to sit back and just enjoy it.
