Fight Preview 15th January 2017

David Price,World Championship
The first fight night of the new year and we are state side in New York for a night of world championship boxing. All the action is live on Sky Sports 1 from 2am. Here’s my preview of the action.

Badou Jack V James DeGale

This fight is a unification fight for both Badou Jack’s WBC and DeGale’s IBF belts,

Badou Jack comes into this fight with a record of 20-1-2 with 12 knockouts this fight will be Jack’s 3rd defend of his title. He has won 4 out of his last 6 , he has only won one of them by knockout with 1 loss and 1 draw. In his last fight he drew with Lucian Bute to retain his titles. After the fight it came to light that Bute had failed a drugs test.

This fight will be DeGale’s 3rd defend of his title that he won in 2015. He comes into this fight with a record of 23-1 with 14 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Roglio Medina by unanimous decision to retain his title. In his last couple of fights He has looked out of steam going down the stretch, this has led to a number of people including myself to ask is he putting the hard work in, in the gym or is he just doing enough to get by.

I believe that if DeGale starts well and gets on the front foot he might get the stoppage in the middle rounds. However if the fight goes into the later rounds then Jack might win it on points, I think this fight is going to be close. The thinking is that if DeGale wins this fight he is planning to return to the Uk possibly for a rematch with George Groves.

Jose Pedraza V Gervonta Davis

This fight will be Jose Pedraza 3rd defend of his title that he won in 2015.  He comes into this fight undefeated with a record of 22-0 with 12 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, but only 2 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat a brave Stephen Smith with a unanimous decision.

Gervonta Davis also comes into this fight undefeated with a record of 16-0 with 15 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6 fights all of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat an overmatched Mario Antonio Macias with a 1st round knockout

So in this fight somebody’s 0 has to go!  I believe that this fight has come to soon for Davis. I believe that Pedraza will get the stoppage early due to the fact that he has fought at a much higher level.

Enjoy the fights and comment below and let me know your predictions
