Fight Night Review 13th October 2017

fight night, review

On Friday night The York Hall Bethnal Green played host to a Nxtgen show. Here’s my review of all the action.

Jason Cunningham v Reece Bellotti

Reece Bellotti upsets the odds to win the Commonwealth title with a 6th round knockout.

The 1st round was very much a feeling out round Bellotti was coming forward looking to use his power but the better quality work was coming from Cunningham. In the 2nd round Cunningham was trying to work off the jab. Bellotti continued to walk forward and use his power. Midd way through the round the pair went toe to toe and the punches were flowing. I know it’s early but it’s shaping up to be a good one. At the start of the 3rd Bellotti started really well working well off the jab then landing body shots, but the better work is still coming from Cunningham. Like the last round Bellotti started the 4th well but then as the round went on the better work is coming from Cunningham. It looks like this fight may have come to early for Bellotti he’s looking very green and like he’s running out of ideas. In the 5th round Bellotti seemed to be getting caught more often. Bellotti was just coming forward and Cunningham was picking his shots. Then toward the end of the round Bellotti started to have more success and out of nowhere Cunningham hit the canvas hard off a heavy right hand, he beat the count but now Bellotti moved in for the kill.

Going into the second half of the fight I had Cunningham 4 up, but is that knock down the turning point in the fight. At the start of the 6th Bellotti came out looking to unload and he rocked Cunningham to his boots, and the referee had no choice but to stop the fight

Harlem Eubank v Michael Green

Harlem Eubank continued his development with a good 4 round win on points.

In the 1st round it started a bit scrappy but Eubank started to work well off the jab and he was always looking for the right hand over the top. In the 2nd round Eubank continued to work everything off the jab, however you could see that Green wasn’t just in there to make the numbers up. The round as a whole was still scrappy. Toward the end Eubank rocked Green with a big right hand. In the 3rd round Eubank looked to step on the gas but he was smothering his work or he was out of range. In the 4th round Eubank continued to work well off the jab but he doesn’t seem to carry much power. He may not get the stoppage but it’s been a good 4 rounds for Eubank.

Ted Cheeseman vs Aristides Quintero

Ted Cheeseman puts in a punch perfect performance to knockout Aristides Quintero in the 5th round.

In the 1st round Cheeseman was working well off the jab but it was very much a feeling out round. Toward the end of the round Cheeseman did look to let his hands go. At the start of the 2nd Cheeseman landed a number of good shots to head and body, it looked like Quintero had no answers. What was good about Cheeseman’s attack is that he was mixing up the power well. The 3rd started slowly but then Cheeseman soon got back down to business. Midd way through the round Quintero was rocked by a nice uppercut. Quintero was coming forward well but he wasn’t throwing anything of note. Cheeseman started the 4th by landing a nice uppercut then went back to the head and body. Midd way through the round Quintero was rocked again, and his head was getting snapped back more often.

Going into the second half of the fight Cheeseman had won every round. In the 5th Cheeseman was landing some nice shots to head and body sooner or later Quintero will hit the canvas. At the end of the round that’s exactly what happened he went down off a right hand and he couldn’t beat the count.

Tasha Jonas vs Mariana Gulyas

Tasha Jonas wipes out an overmatched opponent in the 3rd round. Is it time to step her up.

From the Start Jonas rocked Gulyas with a jab right hand combination, Jonas continued to land big shots Gulyas looked out of her depth. In the 2nd round Jonas continued to land nice jabs to the head and body, and the inevitable happened and Gulyas went down to a knee but she beat the count but it only looks like a matter of time before Jonas gets her out of there. Jonas continued to land good body shots and Gulyas goes down again but she beat the count. At the start of the 3rd Jonas continued to go to the body well you have to wonder how much more can she take. Then midd way through the round Gulyas hit the canvas hard off a perfectly time left hand and this time the referee says enough is enough and waves the fight off.

Also on the bill:

Eric Israel shocked William Webber with a 3rd round knockout on his professional debut.

Isaac Chamberlain scored a 6th round knockout.
