Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time. This week we are in the steel city of Sheffield for a packed night of boxing, all the action is live on Sky Sports Action from 7pm.
Kell Brook V Michael Zerafa
Kell Brook comes into this fight with a record of 37-2 with 26 knockouts. He has won 4 out of his last 6 fights. He’s still trying to rebuild his career after those two back to back defeats, in his last fight he knocked out Siarhei Rabchanka in the 2nd round in his first fight at Super Welterweight.
Michael Zerafa comes into this fight with a record of 25-2 with 14 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6 fights, 3 of those wins came by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out Jose Agustin Feria in the 3rd round to retain his WBA Oceania title.
This is a must win fight for both men if they want to stay in the world title mix, on paper at least this should be a close fight because we’ve got two fighters with similar records going head to head. However I can only see one winner in this and that is Brook, I think he will look to make a fast start and get the knockout early. Many people saw this fight as a keep warm fight for Brook before he finally takes on Amir Khan next year. Although that fight is looking increasingly unlikely as it now looks like Khan is looking to fight Terence Crawford.
Jono Carroll V Guillaume Frenois
This fight is a final eliminator for the IBF Super Featherweight title. Jono Carroll comes into this fight looking to continue his perfect start to his professional career as he comes into this fight with a record of 16-0 with 3 knockouts. He has knocked out 2 of his last 6 opponents, in his last fight he knocked out Declan Gerghty in the 9th round to retain his IBF intercontinental title.
Guillaume Frenois comes into this fight with a record of 46-1 with 12 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout in his last fight he knocked out Michal Dufek in the 4th round.
You have to make Carroll the favourite for this one although Frenois is more experienced, Carroll is undefeated and he’s been fighting at a much higher level. I can see Carroll winning on points or by knockout in the late rounds.
Josh Kelly V David Avanesyan
Josh Kelly will be looking to continue his perfect start to his professional career as he comes into this fight with a record of 8-0 with 6 knockouts. He has knocked out 4 of his last 6 opponents, in his last fight he knocked out Walter Fabian Castillo in the opening round. This will be his first fight where he is scheduled to do the full 12 round distance.
David Avanesyan comes into this fight with a record of 23-3-1 with 11 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights, 2 of those wins came by knockout. In his last fight he was knocked out by the undefeated Egidijus Kavaliauskas in the 6th round.
I think this could be a really interesting fight because Kelly is a fast starter but he’s never done 12 rounds before so it will be interesting to see if he can sustain his pace for the whole fight. With that been said I still think he will get the stoppage by the middle rounds.
Kid Galahad V Brayan Mairena
Kid Galahad comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 25-0 with 15 knockouts. He has knocked out 4 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he put in a lacklustre performance to win a unanimous decision over Toka Kahn Clary.
Brayan Mairena comes into this fight with a record of 10-4-1 with 4 knockouts. He has only won 2 out of his last 6 fights with only 1 knockout. He is currently on a 4 fight losing streak, in his last fight he lost to another British fighter In Reece Bellotti who beat him on points.
Kid Galahad has to be the favourite for this one due to Mairenas recent form. I think that Galahad will look to make a fast start to prove to himself and all the people that questioned him after his last fight that it was just a bad night at the office.
Also On The Bill:
Anthony Fowler: Will be looking to end the year on a high and keep his undefeated record but at the time of writing this preview his opponent had not been confirmed.
