Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time. As The York Hall Bethnal Green hosts another NxtGen show, including two Commonwealth title fights. All the action is live on Sky Sports Action from 7pm on Wednesday,
Luke Watkins V Lawrence Okolie
This fight has developed a lot of buzz around it both in the trade and with boxing fans alike. This fight will be Luke Watkins 2nd defence on his Commonwealth title, and he comes into this fight with a perfect professional record of 13-0 with 9 knockouts. He’s knocked out 5 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he stopped Mike Stafford in the 8th round to retain his title.
Lawrence Okolie also comes into this title fight with an undefeated record of 8-0 with 6 knockouts. He’s knocked out 4 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he won a unanimous decision over his arch rival Isaac Chamberlain in a fight of the year candidate and one that I would love to see again at some point.
Hopefully this fight will live up to the hype and if it does it could be a difficult one to call. Although Watkins is the more experienced of the two I think Okolie is the better technical boxer so if he can keep the fight at range and uses boxing skills he should win it on points. It’s good for the sport to see two young undefeated fighters fighting each other rather than padding out their records fighting journeymen.
Reece Bellotti V Ryan Doyle
This fight will be Reece Bellotti’s 2nd defence of his Commonwealth title and he comes into this fight with a perfect professional record of 12-0 with 11 knockouts. He’s knocked out all of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he knocked out Ben Jones in the 6th round.
Ryan Doyle comes into this fight with a record of 16-2-1 with 8 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights, only 2 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat journeyman Rafael Castillo on points.
You have to make Bellotti the clear favourite for this one because he has never lost as a professional and he is a big puncher. I think that Doyle’s best chance to win is to stay away from Bellotti’s right hand and hope that he runs out of steam as they go into the championship rounds. If he tries to go toe to toe with Bellotti he will get knocked out by the middle rounds.
Ted Cheeseman V Paul Upton
Ted Cheeseman comes into this fight with a perfect record of 13-0 with 8 knockouts. He has only knocked out 2 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he won a tough unanimous decision over the vastly experienced Carson Jones.
Paul Upton also comes into this fight with a perfect record of 15-0 with 3 knockouts. He’s only knocked out 2 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he beat Adam Jones on points.
This fight has the potential to be fight of the night because we’ve got 2 fighters both undefeated with excellent boxing skills. Nether man may not be a big puncher but it should be a good fight to watch. However I do think you have to make Cheeseman the slight favourite because he has fought at a higher level.
Daniyar Yeleussinov V Gabor Gabics
This fight will only be Daniyar Yeleussinov 2nd fight as a professional, however he did make the perfect start to his career with a knockout victory over Noah Kidd. He is also an Olympic gold medalist from the 2016 games.
Gabor Gobics comes into this fight with a record of 24-11 with 14 knockouts. He’s only won 1 of his last 6 fights and that was a split decision victory. In his last fight he lost to Shakhram Giyasov on his debut.
This should be a good fight for Daniyar Yeleussinov although he should win the fight, Gorbics should be more than capable of taking him a few rounds, so this should be a good learning fight for him.
