Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time. This week we have two big nights of boxing. We start in the steel city of Sheffield to see if Kell Brook can get back to winning ways. Then we go across the pond to see Deontay Wilder defend his world title.
Kell Brook V Sergey Rabchenko
There is only one place to start this week and that is with this must win fight for Kell Brook, he comes into this make or break fight with a record of 36-2 with 25 knockouts. It’s been a nightmare couple of years for him filled with losses and injuries. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. He’s lost his last 2 fights after been knocked out by Genndy Golvkin and Errol Spence Jr, not only that but in both fights he suffered career threatening eye injuries.
Sergey Rabchenko comes into this fight with a record of 29-2 with 22 knockouts. He’s also won 4 out of his last 6 fights all of them by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out journeyman Siarhei Krapshyla in the 2nd round.
So who’s going to win this one there’s no question that Brook has fought at a much higher level, but he is taking a big risk in this fight because it’s his first fight at a new weight and he will be in front of a expectant home town crowd. However I think if he can get through the early rounds I think he will score the knockout in the middle rounds. I think he needs the knockout to prove to the world that his problems are behind him.
Gamal Yafai V Gavin McDonnell
Gamal Yafai comes into this fight with a perfect professional record of 14-0 with 7 knockouts. He has knocked out 4 of his last 6 opponents in his last fight he knocked out Jose Hernandez in the 3rd round. However this fight is the biggest test of his career so far.
Gavin McDonnell comes into this fight with a record of 18-1-2 with 5 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights, but only 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out Jozsef Ajtai in the very 1st round.
On paper at least this fight has the potential to be fight of the night. Both men are quality boxers but neither of them seem to have a big punch so I can see this one going to the judges with McDonnell winning a tight decision, however I wouldn’t rule out a draw.
Lenroy Thomas V David Allen
Lenroy Thomas comes into this rematch with a record of 22-4 with 10 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights. In his last fight he beat Ed Fountain by unanimous decision
David Allen comes into this fight with a record of 12-3-1 with 9 knockouts. His recent form has been a bit hit and miss only winning 3 of his last 6 fights all of them by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out Tom Dallas in the 3rd round.
This is a rematch that had to happen when the pair first met Thomas won a controversial split decision as many people at ringside thought Allen clearly won the fight, I had Allen 5 rounds up. So who’s going to win this one if Allen puts in the same performance as he did in the first fight then he should win it, but if I was him I wouldn’t want to leave it in the hands of the judges I’d want the knockout.
Kid Galahad V Irvin Berry
Kid Galahad comes into this fight with a perfect record of 23-0 with 14 knockouts. He’s knocked out 5 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he beat Jose Cayetano with a 10th round knockout.
Irvin Berry comes into this fight with a record of 23-7-2 with 10 knockouts. He’s only won 1 of his last 6, 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he lost to Jhonny Gozalez by unanimous decision.
Kid Galahad should win this one by knockout in the middle to late rounds.
After a packed night in Sheffield we go across the pond for another big night of action.
Deontay Wilder V Luis Ortiz
This fight will be Deontay Wilder’s 7th defence of his world title and he comes into this fight with a perfect record of 39-0 with 38 knockouts. He has knocked out all of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he put in a punch perfect performance to knockout Bermane Stiverne in the very 1st round.
Luis Ortiz comes into this world title fight with a perfect record of 28-0 with 24 knockouts. He’s knocked out 5 out of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he knocked out Danial Martz in the 2nd round.
Many people are saying that this could be a hard fight for Wilder but I can’t see it I can see Wilder scoring a knockout in the early rounds, I can’t see the fight going passed the 6th round.
Andre Dirrell V Jose Uzcategui
Andre Dirrel comes into this fight with a record of 26-2 with 16 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his last 6, but only 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he won after Jose Uzcategui was disqualified in the 8th round.
Jose Uzcategui comes into this big rematch with a record of 26-2 with 22 knockouts he’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights, all of them by knockout. His last fight was the first meeting with Andre Dirrell when he was disqualified in the 8th round.
I think this is going to be a hard fight because both men have something to prove, because they both want to prove they can beat one another due to the way the first fight ended. I can see it going all the way to the judges with Dirrell winning a tight decision.
As you can see it’s a big weekend for the sport enjoy the fights and comment below and let me know your predictions.
