Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time. This week we are at the O2 in London for a packed night of action. All the action is live on Sky Sports Action from 7pm.
Lawrence Okolie V Isaac Chamberlain
There is only really one place to start this week and that is with this big grudge match. These two men genuinely don’t like each other but it’s good to see them settle their differences in the ring rather than trash talking over social media.
Lawrence Okolie comes into this fight with a perfect record of 7-0 with 6 knockouts. He has won all but one of his fights as a professional by knockout. In his last fight he beat Antonio Sousa with a 2nd round knockout.
Isaac Chamberlain comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 9-0 with 4 knockouts. He’s won all of his last 6 fights, 4 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Ossis Jervier with a 6th round stoppage
Now who’s going to win this big grudge match, well on paper at least this is the type of fight that we boxing fans love two young undefeated fighters going toe to toe with no titles on the line just bragging rights. Now I know both men have predicted knockouts but I can’t see that happening I think that their styles will gel but I can see it going all the way to the judges with Chamberlain winning a tight decision. The worst thing that could happen in this fight is if both men go looking for the knockout with one punch because then the fight could become scrappy with a lot of holding.
Reece Bellotti V Ben Jones
This fight will be Reece Bellotti’s first defence of his Commonwealth title that he won in October last year. He comes into this fight with a perfect record of 11-0 with 10 knockouts. He’s only been taken the distance once as a professional and that was against Adel Hadjouis back in 2015. In his last fight he beat Jason Cunningham with a 6th round knockout to win the title.
Ben Jones comes into this fight with a record of 22-6-1 with 10 knockouts. He’s won 4 of his last 6 fights only one of them by knockout, with 1 loss and 1 no contest. In his last fight he lost to Jason Cunningham via split decision in his first fight for this title.
You have to make Bellotti the clear favourite for this one although Jones has more experience. I think Jones might even be the better technical fighter but I don’t think he can stand up to the punch power of Bellotti, so I can see Bellotti getting the stoppage in the middle rounds.
Ted Cheeseman V Carson Jones
This is probably the biggest test of Ted Cheeseman’s career. He comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 12-0 with 8 knockouts. He’s won all of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he put in a punch perfect performance to out point Tony Dixon.
Carson Jones is no stranger to British boxing fans after those two wars with Kell Brook. As well as fights against Brian Rose and Ben Hall. He comes into this fight with a record of 40-12-3 with 30 knockouts. He has won 4 out of his last 6 fights all of them by knockout. However last time out he lost to Mexican Antonio Margarito after been stopped in the 7th round.
On paper this should be a really good fight because their both come forward fighters and their not scared to take a punch. Another thing to consider with this fight is the fact that we’ve got a young fighter and a fighter who’s been there seen it and done it. I think that if Cheeseman can get through the early rounds, I think his youth and boxing skills will take over. However if Jones can force him to fight his type of fight and make him work for every minute of every round it could be a completely different story. If Cheeseman wins his career will continue to go from strength to strength, and it might even put him in the world title picture. However if Jones loses at 31 I’m not sure where his career goes from here.
Joshua Buatsi V Jordan Joseph
Joshua Buatsi will be looking to continue his perfect start to his professional career, the former British olympian comes into this fight with a record of 3-0 with 2 knockouts. So far he’s eased past his opponents but this fight should be a step up.
Jordan Joseph comes into this fight with a record of 7-1-1 with 2 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights two of them by knockout. Last time out he stopped Darrell Church in the 7th round.
There’s no question that Joseph should be able to take Buatsi a few round which is what he needs at this stage of his career. However once Buatsi finds his range I can see him getting the stoppage toward the end of the fight.
Also on the Bill:
Paul Butler and Nick Webb however at the time of writing this preview their opponents hadn’t been confirmed.
