Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time and this week we are at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff for a truly packed night of action with no less than 4 world titles on the line.
Anthony Joshua V Joseph Parker
There is only one place to start this week and that is with this huge unification fight between these two unbeaten heavyweight champions of the world. Anthony Joshua comes into this unification fight with a record of 20-0 all of his wins have come by knockout and he’s never been into the 12th round. In his last fight he knocked out the very tough Carlos Takam to retain his titles.
Joseph Parker also has a perfect professional record of 24-0 with 18 knockouts. Out of his last 6 fights he’s only knocked out 2 of his opponents, in fact his recent performances have not been great yes he’s got the win but he hasn’t looked good doing it.
So who’s going to win this massive fight and to be honest with you I don’t know Joshua has got all the advantages the crowd is going to be behind him and this will be his 4th stadium fight, and Parker has never fought in the open air. I think that if both fighters fight at the level they can it’s going to be a close fight but if Parker fights the way he has in his last 3 fights I can’t see it going past the 6th round. Two things I do know this is not going to be a fight of finesse and somebody 0 has to go.
David Price V Alexander Povetkin
This is a must win fight for David Price and he comes into this fight with a record of 22-4 with 18 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Kamil Sokolowski on points but it wasn’t a great performance.
Alexander Povetkin comes into this fight with a record of 33-1 with 23 knockouts. He’s been in great form recently winning all of his last 6 fights, 4 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Christian Hammers by unanimous decision.
You would have to make Povetkin favourite for this one because he’s in better form and he carries knockout power and as we know sometimes Price can have a bit of a glass jaw. The only way I see Price winning is if he can keep the fight at range and out box Povetkin. However if Price does lose I can’t see were he goes from here.
Ryan Burnett V Yonfrez Parejo
This fight will be Ryan Burnett’s 1st defence of his WBA Bantamweight world title that he won last summer with that stunning performance against Zhanat Zhakiyanov. He comes into this fight with a perfect record of 18-0 with 9 knockouts. He hasn’t won any of his last 6 fights by knockout but he is a superb boxer. In his last fight he unified the division with that unanimous decision win over Zhanat Zhakiyanov.
Yonfrez Parejo comes into this world title fight with a record of 21-2-1 with 10 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Elkin Rosario with a 2nd round knockout.
I think this fight has all the ingredients to be a really good boxing match. Neither man are known for their knockout power but you never know. However I think the most likely outcome is that it goes the distance and Burnett wins a tight split decision.
Joe Cordina V Hakim Ben Ali
Joe Cordina will be taking another step up in his career on Saturday night as this fight will be his first 10 rounder. He comes into this fight with a perfect record of 6-0 with 5 knockouts. He’s made an impressive start to his career as he has knocked out 5 of his 6 opponents but this will be the biggest test of his short career so far.
Hakim Ben Ali comes into this fight with a record of 19-5 but with only 1 knockout. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights but none of them by knockout. In his last fight he lost to Faroukh Kourbanov by unanimous decision.
I think this is the right fight at the right time for Cordina because he can’t just keep padding out his record against fighters that can’t give him a fight. It will also be interesting to see if Ali can take him a few rounds. One thing Cordina is going to have to watch out for is that he doesn’t go looking for the knockout too early because if it doesn’t come 10 rounds is a long time. That been said I still think he will get the knockout in the middle to late rounds.
Josh Kelly V Carlos Molina
This fight will see Josh Kelly taking another step up in his career, he comes into this fight with a perfect record of 5-0. He’s knocked out 4 of his opponents , in his last fight he knocked out Jean Michel Hamilcaro in the 6th round.
Carlos Molina comes into this fight with a record of 28-8-2 with 8 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights but none of them by knockout. He’s lost both of his last 2 fights by unanimous decision.
I think this could be a good fight for Kelly he just needs to make sure that he keeps his hands up because he can be easy to hit at times, he might get away with it at this level but he won’t as he moves up. I still think he will score the knockout in the middle rounds.
Anthony Crolla V Edson Ramirez
Anthony Crolla is still rebuilding his career after losing his world title to Jorge Linarea in March 2016. He comes into this fight with a record of 32-6-3 with 13 knockouts. He’s won 3 out of his last 6 fights with 2 losses and 1 draw, with 2 of his wins coming by knockout. In his last fight he beat Ricky Burns by unanimous decision in a fight of the year candidate.
Edson Ramirez comes into this fight with a record of 18-2-1 with 8 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights with 1 draw with 2 of his wins coming by knockout. In his last fight he beat Christopher Sauceda by unanimous decision.
I think that Crolla will come out with a point to prove and he will go looking for the knockout early because if he wants to get back to world level he needs to be getting rid of the likes of Ramirez in style.
I hope you enjoy the fights and comment below and let me know your predictions.
