Fight Night Preview 30th July 2016

fight night, preview

Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again it’s fight night preview time.  This week there is a packed night of action from The First Direct Arena in Leeds, all the action is live on Sky Sports 1 from 20.30.

Josh Warrington v Patrick Hyland

Warrington goes into this fight undefeated with a record of 23-0 with 4 knockouts and with a hometown advantage. In his last 6 fights his only won 3 by knockout. He seems to be a more powerful puncher since he give up his day job to focus full time on boxing.  In his last fight he won a comfortable unanimous decision over Hisashi Amagasa, but this fight is going to be another step up for him.

Hyland goes into this fight with a record of 31-2 with 15 knockouts.  In his last 6 fights he has only won 4 of them 3 by knockout. This fight will be his first back since he was knocked out by Gary Russell Jr for the world title back in April.

You would have to say that the edge in power and experience goes to Hyland, but you could make the argument that Warrington is a better boxer. For both men this is going to be a hard fight and I think there is a good chance that it could go all the way.  If Warrington wins it could set up a world title showdown with his Welsh rival Lee Selby later in the year.  If Hyland wins it will put him right back in the world title picture, but if he loses were does he go from here at 32.

Luke Campbell v Argenis Mendez

Campbell will be looking to continue the rebuild after his first loss back in December and he goes into this fight with a record of 13-1 with 11 knockouts. In his last 6 fights he has won 5 all of them by knockout. In his last fight he looked very impressive stopping the vastly experienced Gary Sykes, to win the British title.

Mendez is a tough and durable fighter from  the Dominican Republic. He goes into this fight with a record of 23-4-1 with 12 knockouts.  However he’s recent form  has been a bit hit and miss in his last 6 fights he’s only won  2 1 by knockout he’s lost 2 he’s had 1 draw and 1 no contest.  This fight will be the first time he’s fought in the UK, so you never know how the crowd might affect him.

This is a good fight for Campbell at this point in his career as it is a step up, but I don’t think Mendez is going to be able to cope with Campbell’s hand speed and power.

Dillian Whyte v David Allen

Whyte is another fighter who will be looking to continue rebuilding after his loss to Anthony Joshua in December, and credit to him when you think his last fight was only in June. He goes into this fight with a record of 17-1 with 14 knockouts.  In his last 6 his won 5 all of them by knockout.

Allen is a relatively inexperienced fighter with a record of 9-0-1 with 6 knockouts in his last 6 fights his won 5 and drawn 1 with 2 knockouts. In his last fight he stopped journeyman american Jason Gavern.

I think this fight has come too soon for Allen I think Whyte will try to end it early and become the new British champion.

Tyrone Nurse v Tommy Coyle

Nurse goes into this fight with a record of 33-2-1 with 7 knockouts in his last  fight he beat Willie Limond by knockout in his last 6 fights he’s won 4 lost 1 draw 1 with 2 knockouts.

Coyle goes into this fight with a record of 22-3 with10 knockouts he is still rebuilding from the defeat to Luke Campbell back in 2015. In his last fight he beat Reynaldo Mora on points in his last 6 fights he’s won 5 with 3 knockouts.

This fight could be fight of the night because we have two fighters with very similar records, at similar points in their careers. Both with a lot still to prove. However this fight could be make or break for both men. I think this one could go all the way.
