Fight Night Preview 28th July 2018

fight night, preview

Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time, this week we are at the O2 in London for a night packed with action. All the action is live on Sky Sports Box Office from 6pm.

Dillian Whyte V Joseph Parker

There is only one place to start and that is with this huge heavyweight fight, although there is no world title on the line it’s got the air of a title fight surrounding it.

Dillian Whyte comes into this fight with a record of 23-1 with 17 knockouts. He’s won all of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. His only loss came in that fight of the year candidate against Anthony Joshua when he was knocked out in the 7th round back in 2015. In his last fight he scored that stunning knockout over Lucas Browne in the 6th round.

Joseph Parker comes into this fight with a record of 24-1 with 18 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights, but only 2 of them by knockout. His last fight was that big unification fight with Anthony Joshua back in March when he lost by unanimous decision, and it wasn’t his best performance.

Boxing fans are really looking forward to this fight and I think it’s because nobody knows who’s going to win. It could also be the fact that outside of a world title fight this is one of the biggest fights out there in the heavyweight division. If I had to pick a winner I would say Whyte might just edge it because he’s more of a come forward fighter, and he’s not afraid to take a shot to give one back. I have written a blog post building up this fight so you should check that out.

Dereck Chisora V Carlos Takam

Dereck Chisora comes into this fight with a record of 28-8 with 8 knockouts. His recent form has been a bit hit a miss because he’s only won 3 of his last 6 fights, however all 3 of those wins have come by knockout. Dereck Chisora’s biggest problem is you never know which Chisora is going to turn up. It’s ether going to be the one that comes out looking for a fight or it’s going to be the one that’s just looking for a payday.

Carlos Takam comes into this fight with a record of 35-4-1 with 27 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he put in a brave effort at short notice against Anthony Joshua before been knocked out in the 10th round.

This fight could be another 50/50 if Chisora comes out wanting to fight then it should make it a good fight, and if Takam can put in the same sort of performance he did against Joshua then that will make it an entertaining fight. One thing’s for sure for both men this fight could be the last chance saloon for both men’s careers.

Katie Taylor V Kimberly Connor

This title unification fight will be Katie Taylors 2nd defence of her WBA title and the 1st defence of her IBF title. She comes into this fight with a perfect professional record of 9-0 with 4 knockouts. She’s knocked out 2 of her last 6 opponents in her last fight she won a unanimous decision over Victoria Noelia Bustos to unify the division. This is going to be a busy few months for her as she is scheduled to fight Cindy Serrano on the 6th October in Chicago.

Kimberly Connor comes into this huge title unification fight with a record of 13-3-2 with 4 knockouts. She’s won 4 out of her last 6 fights, but only 1 of them by knockout. In her last fight she beat Jasmine Clarkson by unanimous decision to help set up her second shot at a world title.

You have to make Taylor the favourite for this one because she’s the champion and the crowd is going to be behind her. She is a very good boxer because she’s got the power to get the stoppage, and box to a game plan.

Conor Benn V Cedric Peynaud

This is a fight that I have been looking forward to since it was announced because their first fight was so competitive, and Benn only just got the decision.

Conor Benn comes into this rematch with a perfect professional record of 12-0 with 9 knockouts. He’s knocked out 5 of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he knocked out Chris Truman in the 4th round.

Cedrick Peynaud comes into this rematch with a record of 6-5-3 with 4 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out Christopher Legendre in the 6th round.

Although Pyramid pushed Benn to the limit and he became the first man to put him on the floor, Benn has improved since then. I think he took this rematch to prove a point so I can see Benn coming out looking for the knockout to prove that their first fight was just a bad night at the office. Whoever wins it should put them in the world title picture as this fight is for the WBA Continental title.

Joshua Buatsi V Anderejs Pokumeiko

Joshua Buatsi will be looking to continue his perfect start to his professional career as he comes into this fight with a record of 6-0 with 4 knockouts. In his last fight he knocked out Stephene Cuevas in the 5th round. He’s made the O2 something of a fortress as this will be his 4th fight there and all of his wins have come by knockout.

Anderejs Pokumeiko comes into this fight with a record of 17-14-1 with 13 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights all of them by knockout. Last time out he lost a unanimous decision to Enrico Koelling.

This should be a good fight for Buatsi as Pokumeiko should be able to take him a few rounds. However if he wins this fight it would be nice to see him stepped up so that he’s fighting someone who can give him a real challenge. It’s no good padding a fighter’s record because ether the fans will lose interest or when they do step up they won’t know how to handle it.

Anthony Fowler V Craig O’ Brien

Anthony Fowler will also be looking to continue his perfect start to his professional career, and he comes into this fight with a record of 6-0 he has knocked out all but one of his opponents. In his last fight he scored a 2nd round knockout over Ryan Toms.

Craig O’ Brien also comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 8-0 with no knockouts. All of his fights have gone the distance. In his last fight he won a unanimous decision over Jay Byrne to become the new BUI Ireland National champion.

It’s exciting to see two young undefeated fighters putting their undefeated records on the line. This could be a very close fight but I think you have to make Fowler the favourite, because he’s shaping up to be a good all round boxer. He’s shown superb boxing skills particularly his jab and his foot work, but he also carries knockout power.

Nick Webb V David Allen

Nick Webb comes into this fight with a perfect record of 12-0 with 10 knockouts. He’s knocked out 5 out of his last 6 opponents. In his last fight he won by knockout over Ante Verunica in the 2nd round.

David Allen comes into this fight with a record of 13-4-2 with 10 knockouts. He has only won 3 of his last 6 fights, however all of those wins came by knockout. He will be desperate to get back to winning ways, as he was knocked out last time out in the 10th round by Tony Yoka.

On paper this looks like a bit of a miss match but it could be a very competitive fight. Although Webb will come into this one a big favourite but Allan is fighting for his career because if he loses I don’t know where he goes from here. Whoever wins will be next in line to fight Hughie Fury for the British title, this fight is an eliminator for that title.

Hope you enjoy all the action and comment below and let me know your predictions.
