Fight Night Preview 25th February 2017

David Price,World Championship
Ok fight fans it’s that time of the week again fight night preview time this week we are in Hull all the action is live on Sky Sports 2 from 8pm.

Gavin McDonnell V Rey Vargas

This fight is for the WBC Super Bantamweight title, and it is Gavin’s first shot at world honours and I’m sure he will be looking to follow in brother Jamie’s  footsteps.

McDonnell comes into this fight undefeated with a record of 16-0-2 with 4 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his last  6 but none of them by knockout, with one draw. In his last fight he put on a boxing master class to win a wide points decision against an overmatched Robin Zamora.

This fight will also be Vargas first shot at a world title and he comes into this fight undefeated with a record of  28-0 with 22 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out Alexander Munoz in the 5th round to set up the shot at the world title.

So what we have here is two undefeated fighters which can only mean one thing some bodies 0 has to go! There is no doubt that Vargas is the more powerful puncher and if he starts landing big shots McDonnell could be in trouble. However I believe that McDonnell is the better boxer and if he can use his boxing skills and footwork he will likely win it on points.

Luke Campbell V Jairo Lopez

Luke Campbell has done well to rebuild his career after that shock defeat at the end of 2015. He comes into this fight with a record of 15-1 with 12 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his last 6, 4 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Derry Mathews with a 4th round knockout.

Jairo Lopez is still rebuilding his career after he lost 3 straight fights, he comes into this fight with a record of 21-6 with 14 knockouts . He has been on a bad run of form having only won 3 of his last 6 fights with 2 knockouts. In his last fight he beat Edgar Puerta with a 2nd round knockout.

On paper this should be an easy win for Campbell but as we know fights aren’t fought on paper. Although Lopez is the more powerful puncher I can’t see anyway he’s  going to be able to stand up to Campbell’s hand speed, I can see Campbell getting the stoppage in the middle rounds.

Tommy Coyle V Rakeem Noble

This is Tommy Coyle’s first time out since he lost to Tyrone Nurse for the British title in July last year. He comes into this  fight with a record of 22-4 with 10 knockouts. His recent form has been a bit hit and miss as he has only won 4 out of his last 6, with only 1 knockout.

Rakeem Noble comes into this fight with a record of 11-1 with 5 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his last 6,4 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Kay Prospere on points.

I think Tommy Coyle will look to win this one early to prove a point after losing his last fight, and he’s  got the power to do it. However I think he needs to work on his boxing skills as he can be very easy to hit.
