Fight Night Preview 21st April 2018

fight night, preview

On Saturday night The Echo Arena in Liverpool is playing host to a pack night of action, all the action is live on Sky Sports Action from 7pm. Here’s my fight night preview of all the action.

Amir Khan V Paul Lo Greco

Of course there is only one place to start this week the world wants to know how much Amir Khan has got left in the tank. He comes into this must win fight with a record of 34-4 with 19 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights but only 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he was knocked clean out by Canelo Alvarez in the 6th round, however that fight was up at Middleweight and for this fight he’s back down at his natural weight of Welterweight.

Paul Lo Greco comes into this fight with a record of 28-3 with 15 knockouts. His recent form has been a bit hit and miss as he has only won 3 out of his last 6 fights, only 1 of them by knockout last time out he won a split decision over Jesus Gurrloa

Not only is this a must win fight for Khan it’s going to be a fight of firsts it’s his first fight for Matchroom and his first fight with a new trainer in the corner. I think he will look to get off to a fast start and look for the knockout early. As not only does he need to win this fight he needs to do it in impressive fashion if he wants to get back in the world title picture.

Sean Dodd V Tommy Coyle

This fight is for the Commonwealth title and it will be Dodd’s 2nd defence. He comes into this fight with a record of 15-2-1 with 3 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his last 6 fights with 1 draw, however only 1 of his recent wins has come by knockout. In his last fight he out boxed the former Olympian Tom Stalker to retain his title.

Tommy Coyle comes into this title fight with a record of 23-4 with 11 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out Rakeem Noble in the 3rd round to set up this title fight.

I have been looking forward to this one since it was announced I think it has all the ingredients to be fight of the night. There’s no question that Dodd is the better boxer of the two however if Coyle can start landing his power shots then it could be a completely different story. I can see Dodd winning it on points but the way Coyle fights it’s only going to take him 1 good shot to end the fight, and that’s what makes this fight so exciting to watch.

Conor Benn V Chris Truman

Conor Benn will be looking to carry on his perfect start to his professional career as he comes into this fight with a record of 11-0 with 8 knockouts. However he’s going to have to put in a much better performance than in his last fight as at one point it looked like he was going to be knocked out. Yes he won the fight but I for one had him losing by 2 rounds.

Chris Truman comes into this fight with a record of 13-8-2 with only 2 knockouts. He’s only won 2 of his last 6 fights, 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he lost on points to the undefeated Akeem Ennis Brown.

I think Benn will come out to prove a point and go looking for the knockout early to prove that his last fight was just a bad night at the office, and he’s ready to be stepped up. I think he’s capable of fighting for a world title by the end of the year.

Sam Eggington V Achilles Szabo

Sam Eggington will be looking to get his career back on track after losing last time out, he comes into this fight with a record of 21-4 with 13 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights all of those wins have come by knockout. Unfortunately in his last fight he lost a very tight split decision in a fight for the European title.

Achilles Szabo comes into this fight with a record of 21-18 with 10 knockouts. He’s only won 2 of his last 6 fights, both of those wins came by knockout. In his last fight he lost to Gogi Knezevic by unanimous decision.

On paper at least this should be an easy fight for Eggington, I think he will look to use his boxing skills at the start. Then look for the finish in the middle to late rounds.

Natasha Jonas V Taoussy L’Hadji

Natasha Jonas will be hoping to continue her perfect start to her professional career as she comes into this fight with a record of 5-0 with 4 knockouts. In her last fight she put on an excellent boxing display to win on points for the first time in her career.

Taoussy L’Hadji Comes into this fight with a record of 5-6-1 with no knockouts. She hasn’t won any of her last 6 fights, with 5 losses and 1 draw. In her last fight she drew with Licia Boudersa.

I can see Jonas finishing this one quickly, she’s another boxer I can see fighting for a world title by the end of the year.

Also on the bill:

Anthony Fowler will also be looking to extend his undefeated start to his career but at the time of writing this preview his opponent had not been confirmed.

Enjoy the fights and comment below and let me know your predictions.
