There is a big night of boxing at the First Direct Arena in Leeds all the action is live of Sky Sports 1 from 8pm
Josh Warrington vs Hisahi Amagasa
Josh Warrington goes into the fight as favourite with a big hometown crowd behind him. He goes into the fight with a record of 22-0 with 4 knockouts. Ok he doesn’t seem to carry much power but he has won 3 of his last 6 by knockout. He is a very accurate body puncher; he has a similar fighting style to Ricky Hatton. In his last fight he beat Joel Bruker on points in 2015.
Hisahi Amagasa is an orthodox fighter from Japan with a record of 30-5-2 with 20 knockouts he has won 5 out of his last 6 4 of them by knockout and his only been stopped once before and that was in 2014. This will also be his first fight away from home and you never know how that will affect a fighter.
Ok the edge in power and experience goes to Amagasa but he has never fought anyone the caliber of Warrington. I think that Warrington will win ever on points of with a late stoppage.
Saturday night sees the return of Stuart Hall in a final eliminator for the IBF bantamweight world title. Hall goes into the fight with a record of 19-4-2 with 7 knockouts. However his resent from has not been great as he has drawn 1 lost 2 and only won 3 of his last 6 fights and he hasn’t won any of his last 6 by knockout. However as we all know records are only part of the story Hall is a former world champion so we know that on his night he can beat anyone in the world.
Rodrigo Guerrero is a former world champion at Super Flyweight and he goes into this fight with a record of 24-5-1 with 16 knockouts,he has also won 5 out of his last 6 4 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Fernando Aguilar on points to help set up the fight with Hall
Ok on Paper this looks like a real 50/50 whoever wins will become mandatory for Lee Haskins belt. For the loser you will have to ask where they go from there because at their ages and with their records they are unlikely to get another shot at world level.
And then across the pond in New York it’s a another big night for the Smith family as Stephen looks to become world champion. All the action is live on Sky Sports 1 from 3am
Jose Pedraza vs Stephen Smith
Jose Pedraza goes into this fight undefeated with a record of 21-0 with 12 knockouts he is also making the second defends of his world title that he won back in 2015 against Andrey Klimov. In his last fight he beat Edner Cherry on points to retain the title. Although in his last 6 fights he has only won 2 of them by knockout.
As we all know Stephen is a member of the famous Smith family and he is looking to become the second brother to hold a world title. He goes into this fight with a record of 23-1 with 13 knockouts he has won 3 of his last 6 by knockout. In his last fight he beat Devis Boschiero with a 6th round knockout.
Gary Russell Jr vs Patrick Hyland
Gary Russell goes into this fight with a record of 26- 1 with 15 knockouts. He is also making the first defends of his title that he won against Jhonny Gonzalez in 2015. He has won 5 out of his last 6 fights 3 of them by knockout.
Patrick Hyland is making his first attempt at a major world title although he did win the WBF title back in 2011. He goes into this fight with a record of 31-1 with 15 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his lest 6 3 of them have been by knockout.
This should be a good fight but I think you have to give the edge to Russell as he seems to have fought at slightly higher level. Whoever wins it is most likely to be on points
