Fight Night Preview 15th October 2017

Ok fight fans it’s time for our second preview of the week. This time we are across the pond for two nights of world championship action from New York and then California. All the action is on Sky Sports Main Event from 12.30am

Jermell Charlo V Erickson Lubin

Jermall Charlo will be making the 2nd defence of his title that he won last year, and he comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 29-0 with 14 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he knocked out Charles Hatley in the 6th round to retain his title.

Erickson Lubin also comes into this fight with an unbeaten record of 18-0 with 13 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6 fights, 4 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Jorge Cota with a 4th round knockout to set up his first shot at the world title.

In this fight we have two undefeated fighters fighting for the world title which can only mean one thing somebody 0 has to go. However this fight is a difficult one to call because they are both big punchers, but if I had to pick a winner I think Charlo might just edge it by stoppage in the middle rounds. One things for sure this fight is not going the distance.

Jarrett Hurd V Austin Trout

Jarrett Hurd comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 20-0 with 14 knockouts. This fight will be his 1st defence of his title that he won earlier this year. He has won all of his last 6 fights, all of them by knockout in his last fight he beat Tony Harrison with a 9th round knockout to win the title.

Austin Trout comes into this fight with a record of 30-3 with 17 knockouts. He has won 4 out of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. He’s done well to get straight back into a world title fight after loosing last time out to Jermall Charlo by unanimous decision.

I think that if Hurd can get off to a quick start and use his power he should get the stoppage in the middle to late rounds. However if Trout can use his boxing skills and push Hurd back he may just edge it on points, although you never know how the loss last time will have affected Trout.

Erislandy Lara V Terrell Gausha

Eroslandy Lara comes into this fight with a record of 24-2-2 with 14 knockouts. This fight will be his 4th defence of his title that he won back in 2015. He has been on an impressive run of form recently winning 5 out of his last 6 fights but only 2 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Yuri Foreman with a 4th round knockout to retain his title.

Terrell Gausha comes into this fight with a perfect record of 20-0 with 9 knockouts. He’s won all of his last 6 fights, but only 2 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Luis Hernandez by unanimous decision to set up this title fight.

I think this could be another close fight that could go all the way, but I think Lara might just edge it only because he’s been there and done it in title fights before.

Then we move to California for more world championship action.

Leo Santa Cruz V Chris Avalos

Leo Santa Cruz comes into this fight with a record of 33-1-1 with 18 knockouts. This fight will be his 1st title defence since he won it back after beating Carl Frampton last time out. He’s won 5 out of his last 6, 2 of them by knockout.

Chris Avalos comes into this fight with a record of 27-5 with 20 knockouts. He’s won 3 out of his last 6 fights, but only 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Miguel Flores with a 5th round knockout to set up this shot at the title

I think Santa Cruz should win this one because although Avalos carries more power Santa Cruz is the much better boxer, and he should win it on points or by late stoppage.

Abner Mares V Andres Gutierrez

Abner Mares comes into this fight with a record of 30-2-1 with 15 knockouts. This fight will be his first defence of his title. He has won 4 out of his last 6 fights, but only 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Jesus Andres Cuellar by a split decision to win the title.

Andres Gutierrez comes into this fight with a record of 35-1-1 with 25 knockouts. He has won 5 out of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Wallington Orobio with a 6th round knockout.

This could be a real 50-50 as both men have similar records but I think Mares might edge it on points because he has fought at a slightly higher level.

Eddie Ramirez V Antonio DeMarco

Eddie Ramirez comes into this fight with an undefeated record of 17-0 with 11 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Erick Bones with a split decision.

Antonio DeMarco comes into this fight with a record of 32-6-1 with 23 knockouts. He has not been on the best run of form recently only winning 2 of his last 6 fights and suffering 3 back to back defeats. In his last fight he beat Luis Solis by unanimous decision.

Ramirez should win this one by stoppage in the middle rounds. If DeMarco does loose I’m don’t know where he goes from here.
