Ok boxing fans I know it’s been awhile but it’s that time again fight night preview time this time around we are in the picturesque city of Québec, and all the action is live on Sky Sports Arena from 1am Sunday morning.
Arthur Beterbiev V Callum Smith
This fight is for the unified Light Heavyweight World title, with the IBF, WBC and WBO belts on the line. This fight was originally supposed to take place in August of last year but Callum Smith had to pull out with an injury
Arthur Beterbiev comes into this fight as the raining unified champion of the world, and with a perfect professional record of 19-0 all of his wins coming by way of knockout. In his last fight he stopped the highly rated Anthony Yarde after his corner stopped the fight at the end of the 8th round, with Yarde getting up off the floor in the 8th round.
It seems weird to say but Callum Smith comes into this fight as something off an underdog both with the bookies and fight fans a like. However it is important to remember that he is no stranger to a world title fight, having previously been the unified Super Middleweight champion of the world
He comes into this fight with a record of 29-1 with 21 knockouts. He has won 4 out of his last 5 fights. With the only blot on his record coming against Saul Alvarez back in December 2019. However he did take one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world the distance before losing a unanimous decision.
In his last fight he beat Mathieu Bauerlique in the 4th round putting him down twice in the process.
On the scales yesterday both men made the 175 pound limit and they both looked fit and ready for the fight.
Now for the part I’m sure you all want to know who is going to win, well I have this fight a lot closer than many people. I think that if Smith can use his boxing skills and take Beterbiev into the championship rounds which is somewhere he has never been, then I think Smith will win by late stoppage or on points. However if Beterbiev comes out swinging he will be looking to get the early knockout, and I don’t think at 33 with the miles on the clock that he has got he will be able to withstand Beterbiev‘s power if he starts landing clean shots.
As always I love to hear what you guys think so please leave your predictions in the comments. The will be a full fight night review up on Sunday.
