Ok fight fans I know it’s earlier than normal but it’s fight night preview time. On Wednesday night the home of boxing the York Hall Bethel Green is giving us a real pre Christmas cracker. All the action is live on Sky Sports Action from 6pm.
Katie Taylor V Jessica McCaskill
The main event will be Katie Taylor making her first defence of her world title. She comes into this fight with a perfect record of 7-0 with 4 knockouts. In her last fight she beat Anahi Esther Sanchez by unanimous decision to win the title. There’s no doubt however that this fight will be the biggest test of her professional career to date.
This fight is Jessica McCaskill’s first shot at a world title, she comes into this fight with a record of 5-1 with 3 knockouts. In her last fight she beat Natalie Brown to help set up this fight.
This is a fight that I have been looking forward to since it was announced. There’s no question this is the biggest fight in both women’s professional careers to date. I think Taylor will put in another punch perfect performance to win either on points or by late stoppage.
Martin J Ward V Juli Giner
This fight is for the European title and Martin J Ward will be looking to maintain his undefeated record of 18-0-2 with 8 knockouts. He has won all of his last 6 fights, but only 2 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Anthony Cacace by unanimous decision to win the Commonwealth title and defend his British title.
Juli Giner comes into this title fight with a record of 21-2-1 with 8 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights, 2 of them by knockout. In his last 2 fights he won after his opponents were disqualified.
Although there’s no question that Giner has far more experience, in my opinion Ward has been fighting at a higher level. The one problem with Wards fighting style is he tense to get drawn into a fight. If he wants to have success in this fight he needs to stick to his game plan, if he does that He should win it on points. If he does win it should set up a world title shot in 2018. One thing’s for sure looking at their records we are definitely going to need the judges in this one.
Josh Kelly V Jean Michel Hamilcaro
Josh Kelly is taking a big step up and he comes into this fight with a perfect record of 4-0 with 3 knockouts. In his last fight he scored a knockout victory over Jose Luis Zuniga in the 2nd round.
Jean Michel Hamilcaro comes into this fight with a record of 25-8-3 with 3 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights but none of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Lenny Bottai by a split decision.
This is just the sort of fight Kelly needs at this point in his career a good fighter with a winning record. However he needs to be careful because of Hamilcaro’s experience he should give him a good test, but if he uses his boxing skills he should win by knockout or late stoppage. However if he rush’s in it could be a completely different fight.
Conor Benn V Cedrick Peynaud
Conor Benn will be looking to continue his perfect start to his professional career, as he comes into this fight with a record of 10-0 with 8 knockouts. He’s won all of his last 6 fights, 5 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Brandon Sanudo with a 2nd round knockout on his US debut.
Cedrick Peynaud comes into this fight with a record of 5-4-3 with 3 knockouts. In his last fight he beat Amilcar de Jesus Tavares Monteiro with a 1st round knockout.
Ok I understand giving young prospects easier fights at the start of their career but Benn is now 10-0 surely it’s time to step him up. He’s not going to learn anything if he keeps fighting guys that he can blow away in a round or two. If they keep matching him like this when he does get pushed in a fight he’s not going to know what to do. I’m not saying throw him in with the world champion, I’m just saying let him fight someone who can fight back instead of what this fight is going to be which is a glorified sparring session.
Jake Ball V Mile Shinkwin
Jake Ball comes into this fight with a record of 10-1 with 8 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights, 4 of them by knockout. He’s done well to get his career back on track again after suffering his first loss at the end of last year. In his last fight he beat Joe Sherriff on points.
Mile Shinkwin comes into this fight with a record of 14-2 with 7 knockouts. He’s won 4 out of his last 6 fights, 2 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Josip Perkovic on points.
This one could be a very close fight because we’ve got 2 fighters both with similar records and at similar stages in their careers. I think that if Ball can get his jab working and then land the power shots I think he will win by knockout. However if Shinkwin can use his boxing skills he may be able to out box Ball and win on points, because I don’t think he’s got the power to stop Ball.
Joe Cordina V Juan Ocura
Joe Cordina will be looking to continue his unbeaten start to his professional career as he comes into this fight with a record of 5-0 with 4 knockouts. In his last fight he beat Lesther Cantillana on points.
Juan Ocura comes into this fight with a record of 14-12-1 with 8 knockouts. He’s only won 2 out of his last 6 fights 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Alexander Miskirtchian with a split decision.
I think this could be a good fight for Cordina because I think Ocura will be able to take him a few rounds which is what he needs. However I still think he will win by knockout.
Lawrence Okolie V Antonio Sousa
Lawrence Okolie will be looking to continue his perfect professional start, as he comes into this fight with a record of 6-0 with 5 knockouts. In his last fight he beat Adam Williams with a 3rd round knockout.
Antonio Sousa comes into this fight with a record of 4-6-1 with 3 knockouts in his last fight he lost to Nathan Gorman after been knocked out in the 5th round.
This is another fight I don’t understand the reason for because what is Okolie going to learn he’s going to have him out of there inside 2 rounds.
Ted Cheeseman V Tony Dixon
Ted Cheeseman is another fighter who will be looking to maintain his unbeaten record as he comes into this fight with a record of 11-0 with 8 knockouts. He’s won all of his last 6 fights, 3 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Aristides Quintero with a 5th round knockout.
Tony Dixon comes into this fight with a record of 10-1 with 3 knockouts. He’s won 5 out of his last 6 fights but only 1 of them by knockout. In his last fight he beat Serge Ambomo on points.
I think this could be a really good fight if Cheeseman can start landing his shots he should win by knockout in the middle rounds. Although if Dixon can use his boxing skills he may just edge it on points.
