It was announced last week that David Haye and his trainer Shane McGuigan have parted company. The pair have been working together since Haye made his comeback in 2016 and all seemed to be going well when they won their first two fights together.
Their last fight together was back in March when he lost to Tony Bellew in that blockbuster fight that ended with him been stopped in the 11th. During that fight he suffered an achilles injury which required surgery, he is still undergoing rehabilitation but on Saturday out of know where Haye posted on social media that he and Shane will no longer be working together but it is believed to be an amicable split. So where does David go from here I think many people within boxing will agree that he was at his best when he was trained by his former trainer Adam Booth. So the best thing for his career long term could be to team back up with Booth because he seemed to know how to get the best out of him. A boxer is only as good as the team around him and when he was working with Booth they were world class, becoming the undisputed cruiserweight champion and the world heavyweight champion.
Another factor that I think will help David’s career going forward not only in the ring but also with the fans is if he goes back to living the boxers lifestyle, because when he was training for the Bellew fight he was posting a lot of pictures on social media of him out partying or training on a boat. Now I’m not saying he didn’t train hard for that fight because I’m sure he did. However it also looked like he was enjoying the Miami lifestyle. Now if that works for him then fine and good luck to him but on fight night his timing and range looked off. I understand him wanting to train in warm weather for two reasons it is probably better for his body and he will be under less media scrutiny, but he needs to go back to basics eat sleep train repeat as that is what made him a champion in the first place, and if he teams back up with Adam Booth I think that will happen.
The biggest question surrounding him at the moment is when he comes back who is he going to fight? I think every boxing fan in the world would love to see a rematch against Tony Bellew. Or maybe a fight with Shannon Briggs but we will have to wait and see as that is a long way off.
I’m sorry this is one of those posts with more questions than answers but I would still love to know what you think so please comment below.
Tony bellew said he would fight him again but the deal Will be have to be reversed that’s the only way Will get back in the ring, another great topic we done Chris.
